Tank mucking gee's I'm glad thats finished with sure was a bloody dirty job. I can still remember staggering aorund in the bottom of one of the Foo Foo tanks with Les Vivian and a couple of other stokers finishing of a rather sticky affair. I can still remember the look on the OOD's face the day a stoker, (Yes it was a Stoker that did it.) STill in the Dry Dock at GI one Sunday a stoker turned the wrong valve and dropped a heap of Foo Foo into teh dry dock while the ship was floating there awaiting a Monday morning extraction. It sure brough the Island alive that day. No to mention the heaps of it that seaped into the harbour.

Guday Jack I heard last month that old 'Sock' Les Vivian passed away in 2000 and was afforded a guard of honour of fully kitted Lady Bowlers as Sock was well up in the bowling game at a promenent North Sydney Bowling Club and well liked by everyone in the club. Our old mates are few and far between. W.W. Leslie Vivian a gentleman to one and all. May he rest in peace
