;DMorning Men Star'b'd 10. Just drafting in to the forum for the first time and a quick "G'day " Ken's done a great job of this site and should be commended for it. It's a bit slow on the chatter but as more people get involved it will improve. For the people that don't know me I served on board in '63/'64 as Q/ deck part of ship and Gunners party and loved every bit of it.Except for when we took the Sweepers to the Solomons to sweep a minefield and I was attacked by a Japanese WW2 Zero fighter ------ but that's a storey for another time ! G'day Pincher, good to hear from you. We certainly had a good time in the Solomons and the locals were great -- so the current strife there negates the "Pacific Paradise " theme. Anyway , I remember that Island with the mounds of old unexploded ordnance everywhere and some of the stokers wanting to take some back onboard as rabbits . Us Gunnery rates were having a " Kimby " moment and trying to tell them the whole lot could go up. " But it's only old iron !" YEAH ! I think it took a week for my freckle to relax ! Don't you laugh Harry. Cheers Terry

Good day to all.
I am old, I am buggared, I do not understand this computer rubbish and to finish the tale of woe I am one of the original crew. I fact I probably told some of you to squeeze up. Together with Dolly Gray the mad diver type Doctor, I scrubbed the Sick Bay deck to clean off the residue of oil and grease left behind by the previous occupants. My first Sea Posting, there from commissioning day in Southampton until after the Solomans sweeping job. I too remember the bloody Island, sandflies and ordinance with a busy day or so back on board treating various cuts and insects bites.
Did 20 years hard and retired to Hobart. Now over 70 and getting hard is a memory; Harry Goodall will tell you I keep the arteries open by consuming two glasses of good red wine every day. As for the rest of the old timers, if you want to get in touch, make it sooner rather than later, I expect to have an appointment at "Captains table" some time.
All the best to you all Lofty Still R53354 One time cpomed(x)
