Hi TTT'men.
Ex-Stoker John Dunne here (but is anyone ever really an ex-stoker?). Nice web site and some names stirring a bit of buried history..
I may have missed it but has anyone bought up the memory of the un-lamented Chief Stoker Bill Zemek, the bastard who used to have stokers divisions on the quarterdeck every morning? I remember the evening when someone (Mary Nugent?) nuts in his boiler boot and set it on fire outside his cabin.. Now fire is pretty scary on any warship but on a tanker it certainly gets your attention. I believe that Bill stamped it out in his bare feet. Well Zemeck had all the dustmen lined up as usual for morning divisions and I can still quote him "some filthy animal has releived his bowels in my starboard boiler boot. I know who the culprit is (right!!) and he can save himself a deal of trouble by owning up now".
Then there was the Cox'n Joggle Shackle.. we had some real diamonds on the old girl at times...

8-) Guday JD hows it going, just had to comment about Joggle. He still lives, he's up at Nelson Bay north of the Castle doing ok to Cant forget that night ashore in Rarotonga - Cook Is during the Mururoa trip when a island local-ex Aussie bit Joggle's finger because Joggle being Joggle was full as a boot and thinking this fella was a crew member was reading him the riot act. Well this fella sank the fangs into old Jacks index finger near to the bone to. Well the &%@# hit the fan then. Anyway mate cheers fornow and have a great Xmas eh... The Webmaster Dibbie73
